Academic Benchmarking: Research Insights from the NUS ISA Labs
“Observing the intersection of rigorous methodology and practical innovation at the National University of Singapore.”
Strategic Visit to the ISA Research Labs
Department of Information Systems and Analytics, NUS.
In late 2023, I conducted an academic visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS), specifically targeting the Department of Information Systems and Analytics (DISA). The primary objective was to benchmark the research environment and infrastructure within the ISA Research Labs.
During the session, I was guided by a PhD researcher who provided a comprehensive overview of the lab’s operations. The discussion focused on several key areas:
- Research Integration: How theoretical Information Systems frameworks are applied to solve large-scale industrial data challenges.
- Collaborative Ecosystem: The synergy between doctoral candidates and faculty members in producing high-impact research.
- Data-Driven Innovation: The lab’s commitment to utilizing advanced analytics for organizational transformation.
Developing Academic Resilience
Exploring one of Asia’s leading academic institutions provided a profound lesson in academic resilience. Navigating a global research hub like NUS requires a high degree of adaptability and the ability to engage in professional discourse across diverse backgrounds.
This experience reinforced the importance of proactive inquiry and persistence—qualities that are essential for any researcher striving to contribute to the international scientific community.
Alignment with Research Objectives
A visit to ISA Research Labs provided important perspectives on how technology should align with organizational goals. This experience directed my research interests toward exploring Digital Transformation in Organizations and Digital Knowledge Management (DKM).
Although I began my research exploration by studying technical capabilities such as AI and NLP, my focus has now shifted toward a more strategic direction. I want to understand how these technologies are actually implemented to support organizational success (IT deployment for organizations). Through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, I seek to bridge the potential of technology with practical management needs—an approach that is more in line with my background in Management and Analysis.
Conclusion
This visit served as a catalyst for my professional development, setting a high benchmark for my future research endeavors. It remains a pivotal reference point as I continue to develop solutions that bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial practice.
“A commitment to excellence, inspired by global research standards.”
